It began as a fun game that my friend Buttercup used to play with her two young daughters during their road trips. They would compete to spot yellow cars and see who could spot them first. This unique activity remained with their family even as the daughters grew up, but it transformed into something far more significant than just counting colorful vehicles.

She realized that the yellow car had become her symbol of positivity — a reminder to actively search for the good around her. Just as you seek out and find yellow cars when you look for them, you notice more joy, gratitude, and hope in life when you intentionally shift your mindset to focus on the positive.

The yellow car mentality has been proven to boost optimism, resilience, and overall well-being.

This article will explore how you can adopt a yellow car mindset to improve your outlook and ability to manage life’s inevitable challenges. Let the hunt for yellow cars begin! Just be sure to keep your eyes on the road.

This focus on the bright spots fosters optimism and an upbeat perspective.

Seeking your yellow cars also cultivates gratitude. Studies by leading positive psychology researchers like Robert Emmons have found that people who regularly practice gratitude tend to be happier and more satisfied with life. The gratitude boosts positive emotions, which in turn improve overall well-being. So use your yellow car mentality to make daily lists of things you are thankful for — it can be as simple as a warm cup of coffee, a smile from a stranger, or…
