The Tarot Deck
An Ancient Tool for Spiritual Growth and Self-Discovery?
Here at the Wisdom of Gaia, we love our Tarot Cards. The Tarot deck is a fascinating set of cards that has captivated people’s attention for centuries. It has been used for various purposes, including card games, gambling, divination, meditation, and personal growth. Its origin can be traced back to Italy in the 15th century when the cards were invented by adding a fifth suit of 21 specially illustrated cards called trionfi and an odd card called il matto to the existing four-suited pack. These cards were initially used for card games and gambling but later became popular for divination and fortune-telling.

Over the years, the Tarot deck has undergone several changes, including the addition of new cards, changes in the card order, and evolving its symbolism. Each suit has 14 cards, including 10 numbered cards and 4 court cards.
