Connections
The True Nature of Being
From birth to death and everything in between, the one thing that we as human beings are permanently examining and evaluating is our connections. These connections take various forms that shape our experiences and define our lives.
Self-Connection:
We start by seeking a connection with ourselves, trying to understand who we are, our purpose, and our place in the world. This self-discovery is a lifelong journey that evolves as we grow and change.
Interpersonal Connections:
Our connections with other people are fundamental to our existence. We forge bonds with family, friends, and even enemies through a perpetual exchange of energy. These relationships can be complex, but they provide us with a sense of belonging, love, and support.
The Cycle of Life:
The importance of connections is evident from the very beginning of life. A newborn baby cuddles and suckles off its mother, forming an unbreakable bond. On the other end of the spectrum, as we lie on our deathbed, we often seek the comfort of holding the hand of a loved one. Death itself is a profound experience that highlights the nature of our connections. When my father passed away from a heart attack, I reached out to hold his hand, only to realize that I was no longer holding the person I had grown up with and loved. His body was an empty vessel, no longer attached to the essence of the man I cherished.
Connections to Places:
Beyond our connections to living things, we also form deep attachments to places. The places we grew up, the places we discover, and the places that take our breath away all hold a special meaning in our hearts. These connections to locations shape our memories and experiences, becoming an integral part of who we are.
Connection to the Divine:
For many, the search for a soul connection extends beyond the physical world. We seek to develop a relationship with God, the universe, or whatever name we give to that higher power. This spiritual connection provides comfort, guidance, and a sense of purpose in our lives.
